A champagne socialist reflects on Western culture and the Universe... and whilst gazing at his navel, he comes up with a lot of useless lint. It is the fruits of this navel-gazing that form the substance of this blog.

Dubya Bush: Making sure the American Dream remains Just A Dream.

A 1971 study found that when governments negotiate with terrorists the hostage is killed 4 in 10 times. When the government makes no concessions the hostage is killed 7 in 10 times.

Sad, isn't it?
What? Sad that Champas keeps coming up with this crap? Or sad that terrorists resort to kidnapping and ransoms to get their way?

What relevance do statistics from 1971 have on todays society? Sure in some cases old statistics might still work but terrorism? Are you saying that todays terrorists are the same as almost 35 years ago? Sometimes I wonder if you aren't one yourself, or at least a sympathiser. Are you saying that we should give in when they want to ransom someone's life?

Spread the fear brother, just keep on spreading that fear. I know I like nothing more than to get up in the morning and sit down with a short black and some toast with a large helping of fear. Terrorists propagate fear. (Terror is a stronger word for fear - it's where they get their name from). And hear you are doing it for them.

My apologies for that particular call, it was late and I am getting frustrated with the way the left sympathises with terrorists. They don't get that these terrorists don't want to negotiate. Besides, you picked on one sentence of my post, nothing about the actual points I made.

And even though that comment was in frustration, Champas has showed he has no idea when it comes to terrorists. Here's this pearler from a blog article he wrote squarely at me...
Osama bin Laden and some other terrorists are actually trying to make a partially valid point (I know I’m not saying anything new there, but the message still hasn’t got through it seems).
Their point is they hate the west. They hate that the west has religious freedom and that we're free to live as we want, as individuals. Here's something that's got me into trouble before but I'll stick by it. Osama et al are Islamic Terrorists, not just your everyday demands from these fellas. No, they believe that the entire world must become Muslim or else die. Sure there are a few exceptions to this rule, such as paying them for protection whilst making sure you live by their standards and other such ways. But the one nasty fact that will always ring true is that these guys won't stop till they are killed.

The operative word in that quote you use FH is "partially". I do not agree with making the world Islamic or denying people their religious freedoms. That would be strange given my religious beliefs. Osama does hate that the West has religious freedom and for that I strongly deplore JI and Al Qaeda. But it is a myth perpetuated by Bush in particular that this is the only reason they hate the West. Right at the beginning of the whole WTC attack issue, I heard one news outlet (I forget which) actually mention that Osama was pissed off at the way the West exploits the 3rd world and practises violence against them or supports people who are violent against them. That aspect of bin Laden's point has now been silenced through non-reporting and all we hear is that he's about making the world Islamic. I see Osama as someone who started off with legitimate frustrations and then became so pissed off with the West that he became far more arrogant, far more violent and far worse than us.

How many hostages are killed when the government simply gives the terrorists everything they want? If it's less, perhaps that's the answer.

To be fair here is one for Kerry, George's Cousin.

John Freaking Kerry: Making sure the American Dream becomes a Nightmare.

Michael Badnarik: Making sure the American Dream becomes REALITY!

John Howard: Making sure the Ameri...what the hell he is not even American

Junichiro Koizumi: Making sure the American Dream becomes one with mediation in a zen state and is one that people work / study hard for!!

Paul Martin: I got nothing!

Jacques Chirac: Making sure Americans have some cheese with his whine!!

Gerhardt Schroeder: Making sure Americans have GOOD BEER!!

Vladimir Putin: Making sure dissenting Americans disappear...

Tony Blair: Making sure Americans speak proper English!

Though if what works once will get used again, extortion is something they want.

Champas:

Bush's dream is a world where everyone is like us. The problem is that "like us" is 7.5 trillion in debt. The problem is "like us" is 15% of the population with no healthcare. The problem is "like us" is 10% un- or under-employed.

Someone wake us up.....!

I love the slogans Grim. I saw someone run a picture of a beer bottle with a picture of Kerry, the beer's name: Bush Lite. But really I think the family relation is unimportant, many people disagree with their relatives.

I think John Howard would be better with: Making Sure the American Dream becomes the Australian Dream.
As for Badnarik, how about: Making sure the American Dream becomes a Hallucination.

Or sad that FishHead, like many on the Right, simply resorts to insults all the time? Yes Champas has insulted you too FH, but he does it with wit, and for that reason I don't think you should take it too seriously. He has hinted before that he enjoys your contributions and I think he is really just joking when he talks about you. He also apologised to you when he went too far with his insults. You on the other hand get unapologetically and extremely aggressive, like many of your sympathisers.

I don't think the stats should be considered the only piece of information, but only a fool would ignore them.

Re Champas' comment about bin Laden and his long ago made point about exploitation of the 3rd World (see previous Champas posts and issue taking by Fishhead. I do not agree of course with bin Laden's methods and his philosophy but I would have thought the point about explotation was evidenced by the acknowledged poverty of countries in Asia which the UN tries in vain to deal with effectively through its various agencies. Frustration with the developed world's attitude is understandable and it is more than time that the developed world looked more seriously at their attitude to addressing poverty and tried to modify their "own backyard" mentality. A long term wish and hope for future generations. Highway2000
